Traditional Rose is Ireland’s Favourite Flower - Bord Bia’s Bloom Survey 2015

Bord Bia’s Bloom Survey 2015

The traditional rose remains Ireland’s favourite flower according to a new Bord Bia survey released today during its 9th annual Bloom festival. Over 1,800 people surveyed selected roses as their garden flower of choice, followed by lavender, daffodils and tulips. The survey, which was carried out among Bord Bia’s Club Bloom members, found more than two thirds of people (66%) like to garden every week, while another 20% garden at least ‘a couple of times a month’. Unsurprisingly, weeding was voted the least favourite gardening task, meanwhile planting was almost universally (97%) selected as the favourite.

The value of Ireland’s gardening industry is growing for the first time since 2011 according to a Bord Bia study launched earlier this year. The ‘Garden Market Value’ research, carried out by Ipsos MRBI, shows Irish consumers’ gardening spend has increased by 22% since 2011 to reach €631 million in 2014.
