Beautiful Summer Arrangements – Ruth Gallagher

As we say goodbye to the windy days of spring. Picking up the endless supply of leaves and seeing the first sign of bulbs emerging from the ground. Fences painted, the grass getting its first cut, plants cut back. We are ready for summer.

I can’t help but get excited when summer arrives. Yes I look forward to going on holidays as much as the next person but what really gets me excited in work is the great selection and quality of flowers and plants available from Holland in the summer. Dare I say it too much to choose from. I want them all….

Hard to believe working in a local flower shop in Balbriggan we have access to the world’s finest flowers. This makes it very easy for me to create beautiful, creative and fun designs. Here are just a few I would like to share with you.

Blissful Blush: This arrangement doesn’t need a lot of flowers to stand out in a crowd. It is a simple design just using a green anthurium, a few large pink roses, a pink lily and a brassica flower. Brassica is quite a popular plant in the summer and also looks great in borders, pots or hanging baskets. This arrangement looks really well on a hall table as it is front facing. Just what you need greeting you after a hard day in work.

Vibrant Paradise: This is a real show stopper. I love the striking look of the strelitzia, with its strong orange and purple flowers, softened by the delicate purple estomia. Its galvanised bucket with the check purple ribbon also softens this look. The lime green chrysanthemums show off the rich strong colours. Striking orange gerbera, that daisy look always puts in mind of summer.

Pink Bucket: This simple soft pink little arrangement won’t take up a lot of room on your table leaving plenty of space to wine and dine. Delicately scented with pink roses and dianthus. This pretty pink arrangement will bring the summer garden inside.

Sunny Days: What says summer like no other flower? It definitely has to be Sunflowers. This arrangement is perfect to put a smile on your face. The rich yellow of the sunflower with it’s chocolate brown centre works really well against the dark purple in the eustomia. Why not add a little bit of windmill fun. The round purple ceramic bowl creates a cottage kitchen look. This would look perfect in my kitchen in Stamullen.
