Call For All To Spring Into Action

In celebration of the official ‘first day of spring’ (20th March) Allianz Garden Show Ireland has called for all gardeners to ‘spring into action’ and get involved in the Team Garden Challenge at the 2015 Allianz Garden Show Ireland event which takes place from 8-10 May at Antrim Castle Gardens. Pictured at the launch were members of the Men’s Shed Garden Challenge team who are all set to get to work ahead of the event.

The Team Garden Challenge is supported by Enkalon Foundation and is for everyone – from those who have dreamt of being a garden designer or landscaper to those who just want to get their hands dirty and have some fun. This is a true team effort with community groups, sports teams, colleges and groups of friends or family all coming together to take on the challenge of designing and building a garden in a day.

Peter Dalton from Enkalon Foundation said, ” This is a fun team challenge. It is always great to see the finished gardens and it is a great bonding experience for all involved. Whether a team building exercise for businesses or simply a way to get the family together this is something different.”

Teams can take as long as they like in advance to design and plan their 3m x 3m garden plot but they must get together the day before the opening of the Show (Thursday 7 May 2015) at Antrim Castle Gardens to build their garden in one day. The theme for the 2015 Team Garden Challenge is: “A Colourful Garden!” which can be interpreted in any way.

Claire Faulkner, Director of Allianz Garden Show Ireland particularly enjoys this part of the Show, “The Team Challenge always gets the Show off to a flying start. Colour is a big theme for us this year and the judges will be looking for plenty of colour, imagination and creativity in the teams’ interpretations. The teams get together at lunchtime for a BBQ and so it should be a fantastic day for everyone.”

Promising a ‘Festival of flowers, food and fun’, the 2015 Allianz Garden Show Ireland programme will focus on bringing the fun of ‘all things garden’ to as many people as possible. Sitting alongside the traditional array of specialist plants, artisan food stalls, local craft and show gardens will be fun filled activities appealing to all age groups – live music, a dedicated kids’ zone, a garden cinema and much more. Plus, the appearance of numerous gardening and food experts, including BBC’s Monty Don who will be appearing at the Show on Saturday 9th May.

The 2015 Allianz Garden Show Ireland will run from 8th – 10th May at Antrim Castle Gardens and is open daily from 10am-6pm with parking adjacent.
