Limerick Garden Festival is back at the Milk Market again this Sunday with Garden, Plant, Craft & food stalls from all over Ireland, all-day Expert talks, Gardening Masterclasses, Demonstrations, Entertainment for Young and old, Music and of course great Food.
Head Gardener of Lismore Castle Gardens and RTE Homegrown host Colm O’Driscoll said: “At the core of my talks at Limerick Garden Festival will be feeding our plants and the creatures in our garden to make up a (bio)diverse setting for everyone to thrive. And that should very much include ourselves as the guardians and benefactors of a healthy garden. It is for this and many reasons a great fit for the festival to see its first cookery demonstration as well.”
Chef Tom Flavin, Chairman of the Limerick Food Group said: “On the day, I am looking forward to complete the circle of Garden to Plate with a Cookery Demonstration entitled Quick Healthy Cooking from the Garden. Of course organic, local and fresh seasonal produce will be included as well as proteins from local suppliers linked to the Milk Market.”
The Milk Market itself, will be transformed again on the day when spaces are increased to fit all the wonderful plant stalls from all over Ireland. The festival will feature traders from all over Ireland like national nurseries Irish Fuchsia and Individual Plants Nursery and including many from Limerick city and county including D&M Garden Centre, Etna Plants, Room Outdoors, Rockbarton Garden Centre and Liberty Flowers. A full list of stalls is available on the festival website www.limerickgardenfestival.com.
“Having the Garden Festival at the Milk Market for now 6 years is a great addition to our annual calendar of events, which is fantastic for our regular visitors and brings also many gardeners from all over Ireland to the market every year. Together with our festival manager Carmen Cronin, we have this year put together an amazing line-up of experts around three core themes – Biodiversity in the Garden with Munster-based wetlands expert Feidhlim Harty and RTE Homegrown’s Colm O’Driscoll, Wellbeing in our Gardens for Mental and Physical Health with international garden designer Peter Donegan and our new Cookery demo with chef Tom Flavin. There will be a Masterclass again, Organic mentor Jim McNamara is back to host the stage and Leonie Meehan from Irish Fuchsia will speak about her favourite summer plants. In addition to this, there will be much entertainment for gardeners and all the family.”
The festival will feature the Limerick Growing communities space supported by Paul Partnership, where people can find out about their local Community Garden or allotment and the many great activities and events that are run there. Aligned to the theme of Gardening for Mental Wellbeing, the festival will this year again be supporting Limerick Mental Health Association. There will be a Facepainter and adults and children will enjoy the many treats and stalls with displays like the Limerick beekeepers as well as the music by Tom Portman Duo. A new addition is also a workshop for children making wildlife animals from clay with Global Action plan.
Limerick Garden Festival will be held on Sunday, 15th June at the Milk Market, Limerick and is proudly supported by D&M Garden Centre, Healthy Limerick, Limerick City and County Council, Limerick Food Group, Limerick Post, Paul Partnership, Limerick Growing Communities, Room Outdoors, The Heritage Council and the festival supports Limerick Mental Health Association.
