Ideas for Teacher that Won’t Break the Bank

It’s getting close to the end of the school term again. That time of year when we look forward to the occasional trip to the beach with our little gems. Weather permitting of course?? The hanging question arrives!!! What will I get teacher? or will I get anything for teacher?? Hummm.. I have two children in school, what if I had four plus children? That would be extremely costly coming into the summer. Or would it be?

Most of us love our children’s teachers. I am constantly hearing little remarks, “But teacher said”!! We sometimes forget how much time our little ones spend with teacher. During this time she is their mum, dad, adviser, cleaner, nose wiper, lunch bottle opener, bottom wiper, (obviously age depending) and yes! of course Teacher..

Just recently I was frying a few breasts of chicken, on the grill pan and my seven year old son glared at me and with an extremely shocked expression said, “Oh mum, you shouldn’t be doing that!”. “Eh, doing what?, as I looked at the sinister grill pan, with the yummy chicken steaming away nicely”. “Doing that!!, look at all the steam you’re making”. He was now looking a little panicked. “Eh, what the…” is all I could muster up in intelligence. “Well we know who to blame if it rains tomorrow”, he continued. “All of that steam is going up into the sky to form rain clouds”. Well, thats me told. “anyone for salad?”..

I am sure we all have funny little stories brought home from school all through the year and I am equally sure that Teacher knows an awful lot of stories about our families.. Not such a refreshing thought. Hopefully not too many of these stories have not be reused out of context. With this taught in mind, or should I say because our Teachers are so valuable to our children’s development. It is up to us, as caring parents to, “Buy Their Silence”, or as some would like to look at it, reward their hard work. Some of us need to reward their hard work more than others. You know who you are.

I along with many Mums/ Dads scour the shelves looking for that perfect gift that won’t break the bank. I am lucky working in Balbriggan as their is a good selection of gifts available.
However I too can run out of ideas. I gave the teacher mugs last year (she can only drink out of so many of them), chocolates the year before( probably not the best idea when we are all trying to get trim for our bikini bodies, or just to fit into a pair of shorts would be nice.) Can’t send my seven year old to school with a bottle of wine, I don’t think thats legal, although I am sure Teacher would love that as a present.

I have decided I work in the perfect place for ideal gifts. No calories, no legal implications and within everyones price range. A pretty plant, in a decorative gift bag or ornate pot. Will look great on teachers desk and range in price from approximately €10.00 upwards. You can also ask your florist for an outdoor plant, so that teacher can enjoy it for a short time inside and then replant it out in her garden afterwards. That way teacher will have a constant reminder of the educational growth of her most valued student!! The other advantage of this is that you can never receive enough plants, because even if all 30 plus students send her a plant, Teacher will be nice and slim in September and will have an amazing garden all summer. If plants are not for you a beautiful little posy of flowers in her house can be a very pretty addition. Take a look at the pictures shown here as there is a beauty there for €20.00. These floral hand ties also start from as little as €10.00.

If you are finding it difficult to pick a plant for your teachers gift. Just drop into me here in www.FlowersNow.ie in Balbriggan and either myself or one of our staff members will be more than happy to help you. Happy Shopping.
