Meet the Showgarden Designers

Bloom

No stranger to Bloom, Kevin Dennis, the Cityscape Gardener has returned for the second year to create a large show garden. Last year, Kevin designed ‘Riverside Calm’ with fellow designer, Michael Carroll. In Kevin’s latest show garden, the ‘Renault ZOE: City Life Garden’, he explores the effects plants have on the city lifestyle, creating an urban atmosphere using elements of graffiti, steel and concrete with a planting scheme to naturalise the space. Visitors will be able to see how plants can play a part in their lives. Kevin loves the challenge of designing and building a garden at Bloom.

“It is an opportunity to think differently and create something unique. A show garden is a very different garden and not something you see every day. I feel I can express myself in a creative manner and take on new ideas to put on display. Building the garden from scratch on a green field site is both challenging and also very rewarding as the project takes shape. I really enjoy the buzz of the build and find working in the company of all the other designers quite exciting as there’s always someone there to lend a hand and take care of each other.” When asked for advice to prospective Bloom designers, Kevin recommends basing the garden on a strong theme and building the garden around it. “Be practical about your ambitions and realistic about the material choice and budget, in order to achieve your goal within the timeframe.”

Best of luck to Kevin and all the designers in the final few days! Find out more on all the Show Gardens here.
