My Favorite Flowers Used at Our Flowershop at Balbriggan

Now that summer is here I find choosing 10 of my favourite flowers an extremely challenging decision. There is a wonderful selection of flowers appearing from the Holland flower market to mark the beginning of summer. To pick just 10 ?

I have to start with a beautiful timeless classic.

  • Delphinium: a beautiful summer flower, a tall flower. With countless flower blooms in a selection of pastel pinks, blues and whites. A great flower to create height in your flower bed at home and stunning in a vase arrangement. Looks great as a stand alone flower or mixed with a cottage garden selection. Not know for its long lasting capabilities in a vase arrangement, but worth it for its impact and beauty
  • Peony Rose: available in a number of colours, red, white and various shades of pink. You cannot beat the beautiful aroma from this flower. It is a must for the garden and any vase arrangement. In Stamullen this is a definite in my garden. Doesn’t grow too tall but definitely won’t be overlooked.
  • Iris: this is another one suitable for your gardens in Balbriggan. It likes moist soil so a good flower to grow in a damper bed where not many flowering plants do well. It comes in white, purple, yellows and a mixture of these colours. It is a popular flower here in Flower Now in Balbriggan and can be used in a variety of floral arrangements, from funerals to wedding work.
  • Lily: what a wonderful, long lasting flower. It manages well in gardens, or planters. Comes back every year. Works well in all arrangements. A number of different colours and varieties. It gives off a wonderful scent, some may find some varieties over powering but as there are so many varieties to choose from you can easily find your favourite.
  • Rose: a stunning flower, with both scent and beauty. A favourite among the brides in Balbriggan. Such an elegant flower. Don’t however be fooled by her beauty, her thorns can pack a serious punch. There is never a day here in Flowers Now in Balbriggan that we don’t have roses. Although I just have the climbing variety in my garden, my next door neighbour is a connoisseur of Rose production and takes great pride in his beautiful blooms, and rightly so.
  • Lily of the Valley: a highly scented beautiful plant. It is most popular with weddings and a particular favourite with the royal family brides. With its tiny delicate white flowers it reminds me of the first Snow Drops coming out in spring. Its short stems prevent it from being used in taller arrangements but looks beautiful at the base of any arrangement.
  • Orchids: A large variety of colours & sizes. Can be trained to curve into different shapes. Beautiful scents and stunning to look at. My colleague Yvonne, here at Flowers Now loves the Vanda orchid. Although it comes in purple and fuschia pink, her favourite is the purple variety. Not the least expensive of our favourite flowers but stunning in its own right. She had the Vanda in her wedding bouquet so she is not even a little bit biased. I do have to agree with her it is a beautiful flower.
  • Carnation: It may surprise you that I have included this flower, but I do think it is under rated. It has an amazing array of varieties and colours. It can be used in absolutely anything and in the right arrangement in looks stunning. It lasts unbelievable well. It is available all year round. Can be grown quite easily in your garden and on top of all this has a delicate pretty scent.
  • Sunflowers: Well what can I say about this happy flower? You can’t help smiling when you see them. Although there is various shades of yellows through to oranges in this happy flower. It is the bright yellow sunflower that most of us our familiar with. Children love this flower and it is a simple one to grow in the garden. Flowers make us happy and the humble sunflower has perfected this. 🙂
