Pretty Hair Flower Ideas – Ruth Gallagher

Flowers in your hair for special occasions drifted out of fashion but recently they are making a comeback and have become extremely popular. We can see a lot of artificial flowers being used now. Pretty single large flower attachments on hair slides. I know my little girl can’t get enough of them. We have moved away from the sparkles of Christmas and are now looking for something floral, pretty, delicate and light. I love that Communion and Wedding season is upon us and with it comes all things floral. When you want to a change from jewelry to enhance your new dress why not give flowers a try. Here are five ideas to create that look.

A single large flower: This works well with a rose, lily or orchid. There are however many flowers that can be used here. One large flower dominates. It can be highlighted with tiny flowers to soften the look. Waxflower is a good one for this as it holds well out of water. I prefer to let the large flower stand alone.

A grouping of flowers: This is popular for weddings particularly bridesmaids. A collection of pretty flowers grouped together to create a softer look. No one flower dominates. The addition of beads or diamante’s to match your dress works particularly well here. I have had jewelry brought in for me to take apart and add to the hair flowers. It is always lovely to put your own stamp on your ideas and get exactly what you want.

Individually wired flowers: I love this idea especially for communion or flower girls. I Iike to use small spray roses, gypsophilia, waxflower, little white variegated ivy leaves for this. All very light so the individual forgets they are even wearing them. These are great for the hairdressers to use also as if the bride changes her mind about the hairstyle at the last minute, they can easily be incorporated into any style.

Flower Garland: If you want to make a statement at a wedding this is one to watch. They are well known for being used as a communion headdress but have become more popular for brides in weddings. They are fashionably worn with large headed flowers. In a ring with loose almost messy hair looped around them. They look particularly well with a soft, light flowing almost nymph like dress. Not sure if it would be my cup of tea…I do however love the lighter version for first communion.

Flower Heads: I think this idea is very pretty. Looks beautiful in long thick wavy hair. Strands of hair a looped through the hair and tiny individual flower heads, waxflower works best for this are randomly wired through the hair. You need lots of individual flower heads to create this look. I think it looks best just using one type of flower head. It is definitely one for the princess movies.
