RHS Flower Show Set to Spring into Action in Cardiff this April

RHS Flower Show set to Spring into Action in Cardiff this April
From 17 – 19 April the city centre will once again be awash with spring flowers and colour.
The RHS Flower Show Cardiff is gearing up for another fantastic year as it returns to the city’s Bute Park from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 April.

Last year the show marked its 10th anniversary and saw thousands of visitors descend on the floral spectacular in the stunning showground surrounding Cardiff Castle.

The Flower Show, which is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in partnership with Cardiff Council, brings together the best of Welsh gardening and captures the excitement of spring.

From keen gardeners and floral enthusiasts to families in search of a fun day out, the show has all-round appeal and has firmly established itself as a key date in the city’s events calendar.

The showground, which attracts over 20,000 people each year, will be awash with spring flowers and will feature displays from 54 of the UK’s finest plant nurseries.

Kicking off the key themes for this year is ‘Step into Spring’ which will showcase the wonders of the new season, with spectacular seasonal displays in the Floral Marquee, Plant Village, Show Gardens and an exhibition of illustrations from students at the University of South Wales.

The ‘Simple Spaces: Amazing Places’ theme, which aims to show how even the smallest garden can be transformed into an inspiring, practical and easily maintainable living space, will feature a funky kitchen garden for the grow-your-own crowd, a relaxing garden office offering a simple but dreamy space to work from and a wildlife haven to attract birds, insects and hedgehogs.

‘Grow Together’ completes the show themes and will encourage visitors to learn, ask questions and get involved with hands on activities whatever their age or ability.

For those looking for a new hobby for 2015 or seeking tips on how to spruce up their existing plots, the RHS Potting Bench will offer visitors the chance to ask questions and get advice from the nurseries in the know.

BBC presenter and celebrity gardener Toby Buckland will be hosting the RHS Talks Theatre and will be at the show each day talking about his passion for planting and hosting demonstrations.

Younger green fingered visitors will be able to try their hand at flower arranging and willow weaving, enjoy tree climbing, fossil finding, face painting and storytelling, as well as getting close to nature on the adventure trail. Budding junior gardeners – who have the added bonus of getting in for free – can also take in the imaginative creations from the annual School Wheelbarrow Competition display.

Visitors can also browse the best gardening products on the market as well as over 30 local artisan producers in the Farmers Market and 40 craft exhibitors, with live music and entertainment to enjoy throughout the weekend.

Speaking about this year’s show, Katie Draper, Show Manager RHS Flower Show Cardiff said: “This year the show is going to be packed with ideas and inspiration to take away with you into your own garden – what better treat after the winter than coming to see and stock up on beautiful plants from our award winning nurseries! I’m really excited to see the Show Gardens as we have had some fantastic designs that will showcase the design talent that Wales has to offer.”
