The National Botanic Gardens is delighted to host the annual Sculpture In Context exhibition, now in its tenth year at the gardens.
Sculpture In Context is the largest outdoor Sculpture exhibition held in Ireland. The sculptures are the work of over one hundred and thirty leading Irish and international artists; some notable names being: Cliodhna Cussen, Ana Duncan, Seamus Dunbar, Ken Drew, Jim Gannon, Seamus Gill, Janet Harrison, Leo Higgins, Fidelma Massey, Sren Schaarup, Beatrice Stewart and many others. The exhibition also showcases some new artists taking interesting directions with exciting new work.
The Sculptures are displayed throughout the gardens. Many pieces are featured in the impressive restored Victorian glasshouses, (Turners Curvilinear Range and the Great Palm House) and in the elegant gallery space of the Visitor Centre.
Artists contributing to the exhibition are challenged to respond creatively to the gardens and to the specific locations within the gardens. The aim of the exhibition is to provide space for exhibiting work in venues outside of the normal gallery context. The artwork is produced using a wide range of materials including bronze, ceramic, glass, copper, steel and stone.
