One Million Trees in One Day

One Million Trees in One Day is a charity, not-for-profit, cross-border, community and environmental initiative which will plant a million young native trees at many different sites across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 24 hours on 22nd March 2013. Its true aim is to establish individual trees and woodlands in both rural and urban areas that will grow for many many years and which will provide valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations.

The One Million Trees in One Day team is coordinating a large patchwork of sites to accommodate the one million trees. They are working with government landowners, councils, community groups, non-government organisations, farmers, schools, colleges and private landowners to source all of the land needed to plant the trees. They have over 1,500 landowners taking part so far with more joining every day.

Planting will take place on Friday 22nd March 2013 – Saturday 23rd March 2013, it will begin at 12 noon on Friday and will finish at 12 noon on Saturday.Trees will be planted by skilled tree planters and lots and lots of volunteers.

There are 3 different ways that businesses can join this initiative and gain from positive exposure through the project:

  1. By becoming one of the local business sponsors. Sponsorship packages are available for every county which allow local businesses to sponsor trees being planted in their local area. These packages come with a dedicated four week advertising campaign with a local newspaper or radio station plus additional on-line and social media exposure.
  2. By making a donation via the business donations tool on the website. All businesses donating can download and print a poster that says “I have helped to plant One Million Trees in One Day”.
  3. By donating skills and services to the project.
