Despicable Me 3

The ‘Despicable Me 3’ garden is a fun and exciting space that highlights the contrasting personalities of Gru and his twin brother Dru, who are coming to cinema screens across Ireland on 30 June. Dru is everything that Gru isn’t – wealthy, charming, sophisticated, with a head of fabulous golden hair.

The garden is divided in two, each half representing their contrasting personalities. Gru’s house and garden embody a dark space, containing plants and trees with dark foliage and flowers to match his personality and style. Within this gloomy space, however, there are some hints of color and brightness as we have seen the inner softie in Gru through his relationship with his adopted girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes. Dru’s side is a bright and welcoming space to match his charming and cheerful personality and is packed full of color. The garden is split down the center by an oversized model of a ’80s keytar belonging to new villain Balthazar Bratt, a 1980’s child star. This is an entertaining space with ’80s music playing from boom boxes and features a photo opportunity with 8ft tall Gru and Dru that will delight festival attendees.

Bríd studied Amenity Horticulture in the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland from 2010-2013, working as a horticulturist since graduating. A back injury last summer forced her to take a long break from her current gardening job in a theme park, so when the opportunity to design a garden for Bloom came up she was excited to take on a new challenge that involved some non-physical gardening involving designing and reading plant lists. A regular visitor to Bloom, Bríd always aspired to design a show garden at the show. ‘The “Despicable Me 3” garden seemed like a fun and exciting first step to take into garden design,’ she says.(View profile)
