Lorna MacMahon Raising Funds for Galway Mental Health Association with Garden Open days

Lorna MacMahon was a horticultural therapist in the psychiatric unit of U.C.H.G for 23 years. She has had a Garden Open Day to raise much needed funds for The Galway Mental Health Association since 1984.

Usually she raises over 12,000 euros each year. The major amount of the money comes from plant sales, which are not only important from the financial point of view, but brings people back every year. She specialises in Himalayan primulas and Meconopsis (about 600 for sale) and Hostas of which she has over 70 varieties (120 plants for sale) She aims to pot up about 2000 plants over the year and sell them only during the three Open Days and to the various garden groups that are booked to visit the garden but the money all goes to the GMHA. The garden is on about 5 acres, natural style, with hazel wood, stream and bog sections.
