RHS Chelsea Flower Show: A Chelsea Centenary is the ultimate show souvenir, an enduring look at what makes the show so special. It explores how it has evolved since 1914, how it now forms part of the annual social calendar and how it has reflected and shaped tastes in garden design and planting over the last 100 years.

Outstanding personalities are highlighted as well as outstanding gardens. Short pieces by significant nurserymen and women, designers, organisers, visitors and patrons describe what Chelsea means to them.

Arranged chronologically, the book includes chapters on the early shows, shows between the wars and decade by decade to the present day.

The illustrations are largely drawn from the extensive RHS archive and include photographs, plans, posters and other ephemera.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show: A Centenary Celebration, by Brent Elliott is published in April 2013.

Stealing the Chelsea style

In addition, the popular sourcebook, RHS Take Chelsea Home, has been extensively updated for the show’s centenary.

This book allows you to take the best of RHS Chelsea Flower Show’s innovation, flair, extravagance and ingenuity home with you. It identifies the most attractive, practical and portable ideas from hundreds of gardens and designers over the last eight years and analyses how those ideas might work in any garden.

From lighting a dim corner, improving your planting scheme and creating a sophisticated theme to making a cosy space for relaxing or entertaining, this book will provide you with easy to follow, practical advice.

In Take Chelsea Home Chris Young presents the flower show’s key design trends, from Contemporary to Classic via Wildlife and the Kitchen Garden. He interviews gold-medal-winning designers within each subject and analyses their individual design style, providing context to their creations.

RHS Take Chelsea Home by Chris Young, with a foreword by Alan Titchmarsh, is published in May.
